B-Carotene is one of the most important plant pigments and is found throughout the plant kingdom. It belongs to the carotenoid family and when taken orally is a precursor to Vitamin A. For this reason it is often referred to as "provitamin A". The conversion of beta-carotene into vitamin A takes place in the liver, kidneys and intestinal mucosa, in a percentage dependent on the body's physiological needs.

The β-carotene in Lamberts Natural Beta Carotene is extracted in its natural form from Dunaliella Salina, which is a pink alga found on the surface of marine lakes and contains small amounts of other carotenoids. The growth of the organism takes place in a water environment with a high salt content, which helps to prevent contamination by pathogenic microorganisms.
